It is important for pupils to understand how knowing the multiplication facts can help them to recall division facts. Pupils need a basic understanding of division as both grouping and sharing , as well as an understanding of division being the inverse, or opposite, of multiplication.

2 x 5 = 10 so 10 ÷ 2 = 5 and 10 ÷ 5 = 2
