Converting fractions to decimals
When changing a fraction into a decimal, we can first check whether the denominator is 10, 100 or 1000. If it is, we can apply understanding of place value to record the numerator as a decimal.

If the denominator is a factor of 10, 100 or 100, we can make an equivalent fraction with a denominator of 10, 100 or 1000, then use place value as above.

If the denominator is not a factor of 10, 100 etc. we need to understand that a fraction is another way of recording a division calculation. We also need to be able to express a remainder as a decimal in the division method. With this understanding, we can convert any fraction into a decimal by dividing the numerator by the denominator.
