Finding a common denominator is a process we must use when we want to compare , add or subtract fractions which have different denominators. Sometimes it is only necessary to make an equivalent for just one fraction; other times, both must be changed. There are several tricks that can be used to add or subtract such fractions but these frequently result in working with much larger numbers, so should only be used with understanding and caution.
