Pop the 2s!

A game for 2 players

In this game players practise making arrays for the 2 times table.

You will need:

  • A 100 square Pop It (or see variations)
  • Fact cards for the 2x table
  • Nuggets, counters or marbles in 2 different colours
  • How to play

Shuffle the fact cards and place them in a pile face down. Players take turns to draw a card and pop an array that matches the fact, putting one of their counters in each popped.

E.g. 3 x 2 = could be represented by popping either 2 rows 3, or 3 rows of 2. If there is not enough space to pop the fact which is drawn, the player must miss their turn.

The game ends when all of the fact cards have been turned over. The winner is the one who placed the most counters in the Pop It. Players can be encouraged to count in 2s to check how many counters they used.

    Variations

If a Pop It isn't available, this game can be played on an empty 100 square , or on a 10x10 array made from Numicon
