Long division is used when dividing by a number with 2 or more digits. Some of the skills required for long division differ to those needed for short division. Before attempting long division, pupils should be able to do the following, confidently and accurately:

• Use the short division method
• Use column subtraction
• Calculate multiples of 2 digit numbers
