Dienes is a great manipulative to use when working with place value and applying it in calculations, particularly for the concept of exchanging/regrouping in column methods. Dienes can be used either on its own or in conjunction with a place value grid. Many games can easily be adapted to playing initially using Dienes.

Dienes is available to buy online in sets of varying colours and amounts. Most are based on 1cm cube size, so are suitable for using with a number track. I bought my set from Springboard Supplies .
