Make the number

A game for 2 or more players

This game gives practise of reading and making 2-digit numbers, recognising the place value of hundreds, tens and ones and exchanging/regrouping ones and tens.

You will need:

  • Dienes/base 10 blocks
  • Number cards (up to 59 is a good range when the target is 200)
  • How to play

Players take turns to draw a card and make that number using the Dienes.
They then keep the Dienes blocks that they used.
When a player has 10 ones, they may exchange them for a ten.
When a player has 10 tens, they may exchange them for a hundred.
The winner is the first player to gain 2 hundreds.

    Variations

  • Use number cards up to 99. The winner is the first player to gain 5 hundreds. This game can be played with money instead of Dienes, using 1p and 10p coins, aiming to gain two £1 coins to win.
