Subtract from 10

A game for 2 or more players

This game gives practice of using number bonds to subtract from 10.

You will need:

  • Number tiles from 0 to 10 in a bag
  • Numbers from 0 to 10 written in a line
  • How to play

The first player pulls a number out of the bag and subtracts it from 10, crossing off the answer on their line of numbers. The player puts the number back in the bag and ends their turn by passing it to the next player.

The winner is the first person to cross off 4 numbers in a row.

    Variations

  • Use manipulatives (e.g. Numicon, Cuisenaire or dot patterns) or visual models (bar model or part/whole model) for support.
  • Instead of pulling a number from a bag, roll a 10-sided dice or draw a number card from a pile (shuffle 2 of each number together to create the pile).
